Date:

Today we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of actress Liza Vorfi! Honor and respect for her figure!

Liza Vorfi (1924-2011). Actress. She was born in Tirana on October 9. Her talent began as a singer on “Radio Tirana” in 1939. She later studied music for a year at the Conservatory of Rome and then for two years in Pesaro, but had to interrupt her studies due to the war and returned to Albania.

She was one of the founding actresses of the National Theatre in 1945 and worked there until her retirement in 1974. On its stage, she played over 80 different natural roles, some of which were leading and protagonist roles. She stood out early on for her high organic emotionality in acting, as seen in “Moscow Character” (Krushkova), “The Wonderful Connection” (Natasha), “The Invasion” (Ollga), “Tartuffe” (Elmira), and others.

Her deep experience of the characters’ spiritual worlds, often bearing tragic and dramatic weight, was sometimes revealed through strong poetic, lyrical, and romantic approaches, as noted in her role as Desdemona in Shakespeare’s tragedy “Othello,” as well as in those with distinct dramatic and neurotic highlights, such as her interpretation of Martiriona in the play “The House of Bernarda Alba” by F. G. Lorca.

Following this main inclination, her talent also found expression in the portrayals of characters from various comedic types, such as Dorina in “The Bourgeois Gentleman” by Molière, Julia in “The Morality of Mrs. Dulska” by Zapolska, Beatrice in “The Servant of Two Masters” by Goldoni, and Dona Lucia in “The Carnivals of Korça” by Spiro Comora.

In her performances, psychological tones stood out, accompanied by a deep, varied, and original sensitivity, as seen in her portrayal of Marta in “The Great Flood” by Loni Papa. The passionate and realistic acting traits of Liza Vorfi were fully and directly displayed in many performances she participated in, such as “For Those Who Are at Sea,” “Halili and Hajria,” “Our Land,” “The Leipzig Process,” “The Kremlin Hours,” “Hamlet,” “The Innkeeper’s Wife,” “Mirandolina,” “The Upset,” “Majlinda,” “Love in the Time of War,” “Uncle Vanya,” “The Collective,” “Together with Dawn,” “The Dead River,” and others.

Liza Vorfi also acted in seven films, including “The Storm,” “Debatik,” “The Light Commissioner,” “The Return of the Dead Army,” and others. She holds the title of “Meritorious Artist.” On July 11, 2009, the President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Bamir Topi, honored Liza Vorfi with the “Naim Frashëri i Artë” Order for her artistic contributions. She passed away on January 29, 2011.
