The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, has posted this article about “Fan Noli” University on his official Facebook page.Read Niko Peleshi’s post:FOR THE UNIVERSITYBased on some sudden decision-making processes in the structures of the “Fan Noli” University, I consider it important to publicly share some opinions, with the hope of a positive impact, respecting the freedom and autonomy of the university, but also the civic sensitivity for this wealth of common.”Fan Noli” University is an inviolable value of Korça and a strong point of identity of Korça citizens. From the First Albanian Teacher to “Fan Noli” University, it is a long road, full of challenges and efforts of our ancestors, who succeeded in leaving us as a legacy this scientific hearth, where thousands of students were formed over the years.Today this university is facing other challenges, not easy to successfully overcome. Demographic movements towards the capital, where employment opportunities are greater, or low interest in certain profiles, are strong threats to the future of the university. Reforms and creative solutions are required which can only emerge from an open, broad, honest and courageous discussion. This discussion should start today and should definitely include the opinions of every lecturer and student, but also the citizen’s opinion, before it is formalized in the academic and administrative structures of the university.I do not undertake here to provide all the solutions, but only to try to bring all the actors to a consensus about the principle that should guide the discussion: “FAN NOLI” UNIVERSITY SHOULD BE A PRESTIGIOUS INSTITUTION OF ALBANIAN HIGHER EDUCATION, WITHOUT I LOST IDENTITY AND THE HONORABLE NAME THAT HE BEARED. TODAY’S CHALLENGES SHOULD DRIVE US TO REINVENT OURSELVES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TIMES, IDENTIFYING COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND WORLD BEST MODELS.FATALITY AND CAPITOLATION SHOULD NEVER BE THE SAMEOPTION.How realistic is it to claim that Korça, in today’s time of freedom of movement, decently maintains a public university, with increasing demands, not decreasing, and with academic quality of European standards? For all those who read this post as a pathos or even worse as a politician’s speech, I can bring dozens of examples of cities even smaller than Korça that have more than one university and a student population greater than the population of the city. University towns are not necessarily big cities. The university city is a development approach for which Korça is the ideal ground for life.Today’s problems of regional universities are related to market forces. Bigger market has bigger magnetic force. But we must not forget that education is a public service and as such cannot be left in the hands of the market. Same as health care. Doctors may prefer Tirana or Germany, but in any case the public service will be enabled, despite the failure of the market, at any cost, as is happening through the bonus for doctors of regional hospitals and other government policies.A strong attempt to correct the “market” or in other words, the decline of interest in certain branches such as agronomy or exact sciences, is the payment of 40 thousand new lek for all students of these branches. This policy should be promoted to maximize the result in increasing enrollments in September.Another opportunity to make our universities more attractive is internationalization. Double degrees in partnership with foreign universities would create the opportunity for Korca students to study in Korca and benefit from better quality knowledge and internationally recognized degrees. A large fund, greater than the requirements of the universities, has been made available by the Ministry of Education, to support the internationalization programs of the universities. From all the contacts I have made for this purpose, I have realized that the interest in cooperation of some prestigious European universities is great, even greater than the will of our universities. These and many other measures and reforms, combined with a closer cooperation with the municipality and ambitious development plans and above all with a better analysis of the needs of the labor market, can lead Fan Noli University to a standard of young. There are creative solutions for every situation.Few believed that Korça could become the main weekend destination, but it happened. We have to repeat the same story with the public university, with the technology academy and innovation promotion programs. The pages of history that are being written now should be the springboard that will feed inspiration and optimism for many years, just as the work of the patriots, humanists, philanthropists, intellectuals and artists of Korca of the last century inspires us today. They had less opportunities than us, but they had a lot of love.We have many more opportunities, but we need to light the fire of the desire to come out on top once again, so that Korça will once again leave her friends behind, as Naim once wrote and as it seems to us.
Niko peleshi strong criticism of the university of korça
