A young man from the city of Korça has been arrested by the police after being penalized by a court for drug trafficking and possession of ammunition.

“The Narcotics Investigation Section executed the security measure of ‘Arrest in prison’ for the citizen M. R., 24 years old, residing in Korça, as ordered by the Korça Court, for the criminal offenses of ‘Production and sale of narcotics’ and ‘Illegal possession and production of weapons, explosives, and ammunition,’” stated the official press release from the Regional Directorate of Police in Korça.

Korçë: As a result of the implementation of the megaoperation “Rule of Law,” a case of smuggling goods subject to excise tax was uncovered.

Police discovered 160 packs of untaxed cigarettes in a vehicle and at a residence, suspected to have been smuggled from Greece. A 46-year-old Greek national was arrested at the scene.

The police seized the cigarette packs, a sum of cash, the vehicle, and two mobile phones.

Specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, continuing their efforts to prevent, detect, and combat criminal activities in the field of smuggling, acted on intelligence information to dismantle this criminal operation. The arrested individual, V. T., 46, residing in Greece, faces charges of “Smuggling goods subject to excise tax or evading customs duties” and “Trading and transporting smuggled goods,” as well as “Concealing income.”

At the entrance of the city of Devoll, police stopped a vehicle driven by V. T., during which they found dozens of untaxed cigarette packs. Subsequently, during a search of his residence in the village of Çiflig, more packs of cigarettes without proper invoices were discovered.

In total, 160 packs of various types of cigarettes, 1,038 euros, two mobile phones, and the 46-year-old’s vehicle were seized as material evidence.

The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecution Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça for further action.

The Road Police Sector apprehended E. M., 24, a resident of Korçë, in the act of driving under the influence in neighborhood no. 16, Korçë.

The Korçë Police Station arrested the following individuals in flagrante delicto:

• K. S., 49, a resident of the village of Goskovë e Poshtme, Korçë, on suspicion of committing violence against his wife, who has been issued a protection order.
• B. S., 42, a resident of Korçë, on suspicion of committing violence against his wife, who has also been issued a protection order.

A. B., 36, a resident of Korçë, was arrested for committing violence against his partner, who has been issued a protection order.

Additionally, this police station referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where proceedings were initiated against the following individuals, who are in a state of freedom:

• E. V., 44, a resident of the village of Prilep, North Macedonia, for violating the protection order issued in favor of his wife by approaching her residence.
• S. S., 28, a resident of Korçë, on suspicion of committing violence against her mother, who has also been issued a protection order.
• D. B., 40, a resident of Korçë, for being found with pages of sports betting on his cellphone during a check conducted at a local establishment in neighborhood no. 16.

The Pogradec Police Station referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, initiating criminal proceedings against two minors, aged 13 and 14, who threatened a peer with a sharp object (a knife) in an attempt to steal a small amount of money.

The Kolonjë Police Station referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against T. M., 38, a resident of Ersekë, for assaulting two individuals with blunt objects over trivial reasons.

The Narcotics Investigation Section referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, leading to criminal proceedings against K. H., 39, a resident of the village of Buçimas, and E. Xh., 28, a resident of Pogradec, after a physical search revealed and seized a small quantity of suspected narcotic substance (cannabis).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding I. K., 49, for allegedly defrauding a 64-year-old woman out of a sum of money.

The procedural materials have been transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korçë for further action.

Around 1:00 AM on September 19, 2024, the Pogradec Police Station was notified by the family of G. Ç., 38, a resident of the village of Çërravë, Pogradec, who has mental health issues, that he had left his home. Efforts are being made to locate him.

The Korçë Police Station arrested J. L., 29 years old, a resident of Korçë, in the act of pursuing his girlfriend over the past few days.

The Maliq Police Station arrested L. Dh., 31 years old, a resident of Korçë, and referred the case to the Prosecutor’s Office, where legal proceedings were initiated against a 17-year-old. During a search conducted at the premises used by the 31-year-old in the village of Pirg, Maliq, pages related to illegal sports betting were found on the phones of these individuals.

The phones were seized as material evidence.

From the same police station, E. E., 29 years old, a resident of the village of Vashtemi, Maliq, was arrested in the act for allegedly committing violence against his mother, who was issued a protection order.

The Devoll Police Station arrested K. M., 42 years old, a resident of the village of Sinicë, Devoll, in the act for allegedly committing violence against his father-in-law, who was also issued a protection order.

From these same structures, materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office, where legal proceedings were initiated against E. M., 40 years old, a resident of Këlcyrë, Përmet, for allegedly committing violence against his partner, who was issued a protection order.

The Pogradec Police Station referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where legal proceedings were initiated against E. A., 20 years old, a resident of the village of Buçimas, Pogradec, for allegedly assaulting a 29-year-old with a hard object over minor motives.

The Traffic Police Sector referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where legal proceedings were initiated against N. S., 76 years old, a resident of Korçë, for allegedly hitting a 59-year-old who was riding a bicycle with his vehicle on the “Korçë-Devoll” road, in the village of Neviçisht, causing minor injuries.

A few moments ago, an accident occurred near the Terminal in the southeastern city.

A “Benz” vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was walking on the road, leaving them injured at the scene.

The injured person has been rushed to the city hospital, where they are receiving first aid. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident has been taken to the city police station to clarify the cause of the accident.

Korçë / Preliminary Information

Around 5:45 PM, in Neighborhood No. 8, Korçë, a 52-year-old man identified as A. V. was found dead in his home.

A preliminary examination of the body revealed no signs of violence. It is suspected that the individual may have died of natural causes.

The investigative team is working to clarify the circumstances and cause of death of the 52-year-old.
