Absurd in Volleyball: Pogradeci coach dismissed

In just the first three weeks of the season, an unexpected and shocking event has occurred in women’s volleyball. The coach of the Pogradeci team, Mimoza Shahu, has been dismissed. In their first three matches, the team secured one victory and suffered two defeats. This information has been confirmed through a letter received by the Volleyball Federation, stating that “the relationship with the team’s coach will be terminated effective November 2, 2024.” It appears they were careful in their notification, giving a 30-day notice, which means the coach will still receive payment for this month.

What stands out, however, is the continuation of the message: “Considering her significant contribution so far, we propose she remains part of the club by directing the Pogradec Volleyball Academy.”

This highlights the positive impact Coach Shahu has had, having rebuilt the team from scratch, leading them to win the championship in the first category and finishing sixth last season. Now, she has received notice of her departure from the team.

When asked about the situation, Mimoza Shahu stated, “I expected to have a meeting with the management and players regarding the recent loss. An analysis was supposed to take place, but I wasn’t given that opportunity. I did have a meeting with the administrator, but it wasn’t in an official setting, and I was informed that I would no longer be coaching the team. To experience one or two losses and be dismissed like this is truly unfortunate. I say this sincerely: if I were the problem and the team wasn’t performing, I would have resigned myself at the end of the phase. But a coach shouldn’t be judged on just two or three matches.”

However, reliable sources have indicated that the management held a meeting only with the foreign players and not with the entire team before making this decision, which is certainly not professional. We hope that the management will reconsider their decision and calmly do what is best. The role of a coach deserves respect, and it’s essential to understand how challenging and demanding this position truly is.

The United States is already at war

Yesterday, Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israel’s assassination in Beirut of Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah last week and its assassination in Tehran of Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniyeh in July.United States President Joe Biden instructed the US military to assist Israel in neutralising the missiles – not that Israel is not already equipped with various layers of ultra-sophisticated protection against incoming projectiles, which permit it to go about slaughtering folks left and right while suffering minimal damage in return.During a news briefing at the White House, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that US naval destroyers had “joined Israeli air defence units in firing interceptors to shoot down in-bound missiles”. Praising the “professionalism” of the Israeli military, Sullivan also lauded the “skilled work of the US military and meticulous joint planning in anticipation of the attack”.

Off course, not once has it occurred to the Biden administration to meticu

lously thwart Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where officially more than 41,000 people have been killed in less than a year although the true death toll is without a doubt exorbitantly higher. Nor has the oh-so-skilled US military deemed it necessary to interfere in the wanton butchery currently going down in Lebanon, where Israel just killed more than 700 people in less than a week. And while many an international observer has sounded the alarm that the US could now be “dragged” into a regional war – warnings that will only increase after the Iranian missile attack – in reality the US is not really being “dragged” anywhere.Rather, the US is in a position entirely of its own making. And the fact of the matter is that the US is already at war.To be sure, even prior to the launch of the genocide, the US habit of flinging billions of dollars at the Israeli military on an annual basis long ago made it transparently complicit in Israeli efforts to disappear Palestine. Since October 7, the billions have only multiplied, despite Biden’s intermittent squawking about cutting off the supply of certain offensive weaponry to Israel. In August, the Biden administration approved a $20bn weapons package to its Israeli partner in crime. And on September 26, the Reuters news agency reported Israel’s announcement that “it had secured an $8.7 billion aid package from the United States to support its ongoing military efforts and to maintain a qualitative military edge in the region”.The package was said to include “$3.5 billion for essential wartime procurement… and $5.2 billion designated for air defense systems including the Iron Dome anti-missile system, David’s Sling and an advanced laser system”.

Mario Rabiu: Another devout believer at…

At Skënderbeu, many players openly express their faith. They not only hold their beliefs but also promote them, especially during challenging sports moments, genuinely believing in God in their own ways, which may vary.

What is clear is that everyone respects each other’s beliefs. This time, we bring you Mario Rabiun, who can be seen in the photo praying before the match. Many players from Korçë perform their rituals of faith when on the field or at the beginning of a game.

In fact, many of them share excerpts from their religious sayings on their social media, showcasing that they believe that only by having faith in God can they achieve great results, and of course, they seek good fortune in every match.

“VOLEJ FEMRA / Super Skënderbeu crushes Teuta in the semifinals. Tomorrow’s final against Partizani or Tirana.”

Skënderbeu – Teuta 3-0

(25-12, 25-17, 26-24)

The first women’s volleyball semifinal of the FSHV Cup between Skënderbeu and Teuta has just concluded in Farkë, the capital’s suburb. The Korçë team, led by Orlando Koja, decisively defeated Teuta 3-0.

It was a match dominated by one team on the court—the red-and-white girls, who were unstoppable and showed in their debut match that this season they are again the team to beat for all the trophies.

In the match that ended moments ago, Skënderbeu never doubted their victory. The first set only had a story in the initial points where Skënderbeu was tied 2-2 with Teuta. After that, Skënderbeu began to pull ahead with four consecutive points, making it 6-2. Following this moment, Skënderbeu continued to lead and reached 11-4, forcing the Durrës team to take a timeout. After the timeout, the same story continued, with the score reaching 19-7, 21-11, and the first set ending 25-12 in favor of Skënderbeu.

The second set began with Teuta leading in the early points, 0-1 and 1-3. After that moment, the red-and-white girls scored six consecutive points to take a 6-3 lead and then continued to dominate the game. The score went to 9-4, then 14-9, 17-10, and Teuta took another timeout. Even after the timeout, the score was 20-13 in favor of Skënderbeu, and the second set ended 25-17, making the set score 2-0 in favor of Skënderbeu.

The third and final set of the match started with several ties—1-1, 4-4, 6-6—while Teuta led briefly at 6-9, forcing coach Orlando Koja to call a timeout as the red-and-white girls were allowing too much on the court. After that, Skënderbeu rallied and first tied the score at 10-10, then began to pull ahead 14-12, prompting the Teuta coach to call a timeout. The score continued at 18-15, 20-17, 21-19, and then tied at 24-24. The final two points were scored by Skënderbeu, who won the third set 26-24 and the match 3-0.

Following this more than comfortable victory, Skënderbeu is the first team to advance to the final of the FSHV Cup. The other semifinal is between Partizani and Tirana, and the winner of that match at 7:00 PM will play the final tomorrow at 4:30 PM in Farkë.

Congratulations to the Skënderbeu girls! The trophy is ours!

For all Korça residents/ What was the name of this shop?!

Korça, a wonderful city with a rich history and unique names for every corner and shop.

Each name was closely linked to the people who sold or had sold there previously, creating a strong connection between the community and the shops.

However, when it comes to old shops, their names remain unforgettable and are still referred to by the same names by the city’s elders.
