Recently, we reported that, according to Digital Foundry, the PS5 Pro and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) enhance The Last of Us 2 with impressive remasters. Now, they have provided additional insights into the PS5 Pro version of this action-adventure title from Naughty Dog.
The enhancements in The Last of Us largely focus on upscaling, utilizing Sony’s PSSR technology instead of TAA.
The Last of Us 2: Enhanced Visuals Thanks to PSSR
The standard resolution of The Last of Us 2 remains at 1440p on the PS5, similar to the standard PS5 version, but PSSR introduces significant visual improvements.
Digital Foundry’s new video dives into the overall presentation of the game. In the video, Richard Leadbetter and Oliver Mackenzie share their impressions after playing the PS5 Pro version, discussing both the game and the PS5 Pro in general.
Expect more coverage soon on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Initial tests indicate that The Last of Us 2 in the new Pro mode delivers nearly flawless performance, maintaining a steady 60 fps. Minor drops may occur during scene transitions in cutscenes.
In addition to the new mode, the previous rendering options from the standard PS5 are also available on the PS5 Pro, although these don’t offer substantial advantages beyond improved performance with a higher frame rate.
After the first game, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on the PS5 Pro presents a compelling visual experience with near-perfect performance. The expectation is that it will match the graphical quality of the standard PS5’s quality mode at 60 fps.
The overall benefits of The Last of Us 2 from the PS5 Pro upgrade will become clearer when the console launches on November 7, 2024, priced at €799.99.
