Trump is expected to be named Person of the Year by TIME

Date:

Donald Trump is expected to be named “Person of the Year” by Time magazine.

This recognition would mark the second time Trump receives the title, having first been named in 2016 after his victory in the presidential election. He joins a list of 13 other U.S. presidents who have also been honored, including the current president, Joe Biden.

The shortlist for Time’s “Person of the Year” was revealed on NBC’s The Today Show on Monday. It includes Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton, Elon Musk, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Time has already announced some of its other honorees for the year: NBA star Caitlin Clark as Athlete of the Year, Elton John as Icon of the Year, and Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, as CEO of the Year.

A spokesperson for Time stated that the magazine does not comment on its annual “Person of the Year” selection before its official announcement. This year’s honoree will be revealed on the morning of December 12 on Time.com.

Trump has a long history of being featured on magazine covers, particularly on Time. However, he has had mixed reactions to the magazine’s choices in the past. In 2013, he dismissed Time’s annual list of influential people as “a joke and gimmick of a dying magazine.” Similarly, in 2015, he criticized the decision to name then-German Chancellor Angela Merkel as “Person of the Year” over him.

Despite these criticisms, Trump later described the honor as “a great achievement.” Reflecting on the recognition in 2016, he said, “It means a lot, especially because I grew up reading Time magazine. It’s a very important publication.”

This year alone, Trump has appeared on the magazine’s cover three times.
