Valter Xhelillari, the individual who entered the premises of a second bank in Korça, has been cleared before the investigation team, claiming that his actions were accidental, as he was distracted while talking on the phone with his girlfriend, B. Meta.
Elton Qyno, a journalist for “Ora News,” obtained the testimony of the arrested person, who explained that he never intended to rob the bank. According to him, on December 21, 2024, he entered the bank entrance purely by chance and in a nonsensical manner because he was intoxicated and talking on the phone with his girlfriend.
An analysis of his phone showed that at 09:18 AM, he had a video call on the “Messenger” app with contact B. Meta, which lasted 55 minutes and 14 seconds.
Based on his testimony and the phone inspection, the Korça prosecutor’s office decided to drop the charge of “Robbery of Banks and Savings Institutions” and instead charged Valter Xhelillari with “Disturbing Public Order” and “Destruction of Property by Fire.”
He confessed: “Yesterday, I was drunk since the early morning hours. In the late afternoon, I went to bar L…, where I stayed for about 2 hours. I drank more alcohol there. After leaving bar L…, I was talking on “Messenger” with a girl who is my girlfriend and lives in Italy. I passed through the pedestrian zone of the city and later walked by the bank. I was very drunk, and I don’t remember which bank it was. I was still talking on “Messenger” with the girl, and at one point, I kicked a door, but I didn’t know it was a bank or a shop. After kicking the door, I don’t remember anything until I got home. And when I got home, I don’t remember anything…” Xhelillari told authorities.
The next day, in the evening, he spoke to his girlfriend again, and she told him that he had made a mistake the previous day, explaining the situation.
“I was completely unaware yesterday. I was drunk and don’t remember what I did. Now that I understand what happened, I feel sorry. I apologize for what I did. I never intended to rob the bank. I’ve never done anything like that in my life…” the arrested individual stated.
It is expected that tomorrow, Valter Xhelillari will appear before the Korça court to be informed of the house arrest measure requested by the prosecution.
