Shoppers in China are benefiting from “crazy” discounts on iPhones, while Apple faces increasing competition from local brands. The discounts start this Saturday, January 4th, and will be up to 500 yuan ($68.50, £55.30) for some of the latest models from the American tech giant. Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has also lowered prices on its devices by up to 20%.
The discounts come at a time when consumers in China are uncertain about spending due to the country’s economic challenges. The largest discount of 500 yuan will apply to the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple’s flagship model, which has a starting price of 7,999 yuan, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which currently costs 9,999 yuan. The company ran a similar promotion in China last year before the Lunar New Year holiday.
