U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed Washington’s support for Kyiv, new U.S. sanctions against Russia, and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense during their conversation on Friday, President Zelenskyy said.
In a social media post, the Ukrainian President thanked President Biden for Washington’s support in Ukraine’s nearly three-year struggle against Russia and for “the vital role the United States has played in uniting the international community.”
President Zelenskyy stated that the presidents also discussed new U.S. sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and liquefied natural gas industries, “which help Putin finance the war.”
“He must feel the cost of the war,” the Ukrainian president wrote.
President Zelenskyy added that he and President Biden discussed the need to continue strengthening Ukraine’s air defense “to protect Ukrainians from Russian terror—daily missile and drone attacks.”
The U.S.-supplied Patriot air defense systems “have proven their effectiveness, and we must continue to enhance this capability,” President Zelenskyy emphasized.
