Vitamins that have the same function as antibiotics

Date:

The use of antibiotics began in the 1940s as an effective method for treating infections and diseases. However, over the years, many bacteria have become resistant to these medications.

On the other hand, there are many vitamins that not only combat bacteria effectively but also strengthen the immune system. They can prevent illnesses and shorten their duration. However, this does not mean acting on your own initiative.
Consult a doctor to ensure that these supplements do not interact with any medications you are currently taking.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C reduces the duration of illness, strengthens the immune system, and acts as an antioxidant against free radicals. Free radicals feed on healthy cells and increase the risk of various diseases.

Foods rich in Vitamin C:
Red peppers, green peppers, kiwis, oranges and citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli, and tomatoes.

Daily recommended intake:

  • Men: 90 milligrams per day
  • Women: 75 milligrams per day (except pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, who should consult a doctor)
  • Pregnant women: On average, 85 milligrams per day
  • Breastfeeding mothers: 120 milligrams per day
  • Smokers: 35 milligrams more than the recommended dose above.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium more efficiently. This powerful vitamin regulates the functioning of the immune system and enhances its vigilance. Appropriate levels of Vitamin D prevent the growth and spread of bacteria that cause illness.

Daily recommended intake:
15 micrograms per day.

Foods rich in Vitamin D:
Cod liver oil, fish oil, fortified dairy products, fortified cereals.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant in the body and serves as an antibiotic against free radicals. If your blood levels of Vitamin E are low, your immune system will be weakened, making you an easy target for illnesses.

Daily recommended intake:
15 milligrams per day.

Foods rich in Vitamin E:
Fortified cereals, sunflower seeds, almonds, peanut butter.

Make an effort to get as many vitamins as possible through food and supplements to successfully navigate this harsh season of flu and viruses.
