About 100,000 Volkswagen workers joined the strike

Date:

A one-day strike at nearly all factories of the German automotive giant Volkswagen in Germany ended on Tuesday morning, with the workers’ union reporting that nearly 100,000 employees participated in the protest.

The strike was organized by the union to oppose plans for wage reductions, the closure of some factories, and workforce downsizing at Volkswagen, Europe’s largest vehicle manufacturer.

On the other hand, company executives reiterated that cost-cutting measures are essential for maintaining competitiveness in the market, boosting profits, and reinvesting in future vehicle technologies, including electric cars.

Volkswagen has been facing declining demand and increasing competition on the global stage, particularly from Chinese markets.

The German automotive giant has struggled with the launch and promotion of its electric vehicle models.

Union leaders have described this strike as the first warning against the company’s strict management plans. They cautioned that if workers’ demands are not addressed, further protests could take place during the winter months.
