Aesthetic trends that plastic surgeons predict will be in vogue in 2025

Date:

Aesthetic treatments are no longer a taboo topic as they were years ago. Today, many people, including celebrities, openly and regularly discuss cosmetic procedures such as laser treatments, facial care, and skin-tightening techniques.

Looking ahead to 2025, trends will go beyond traditional procedures like these. One of the most discussed topics in recent years has been treatments with GLP-1 medications, such as semaglutides (Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro), which are primarily associated with weight loss. These treatments have introduced terms like “Ozempic face” and sparked conversations about drastic appearance changes due to rapid weight loss.

One of the effects of these treatments is “facial shrinking,” which can even occur at a younger age, leading to increased demand for non-invasive skin-tightening treatments and an overall shift toward a more natural look. This trend has also led to a decline in the popularity of procedures aimed at dramatic body augmentations, such as the Brazilian butt lift (BBL).

According to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Adam R. Kolker, the use of semaglutides has resulted in volume loss and deflation in areas such as the face, chest, and body. Consequently, advances in facelift techniques have been invaluable in addressing these effects, providing a refreshed and natural appearance.

Additionally, people are moving away from traditional fillers due to “filler fatigue” or concerns about an overly artificial look. Instead, they are seeking more sustainable and natural methods that surgery can provide. Other innovative treatments, such as those using salmon sperm, exosomes, and stem cells, are also on the rise. These procedures, popularized by celebrities, are gaining traction for their potential to rejuvenate and visibly improve one’s appearance.

For 2025, it is clear that skin tightening and rejuvenation treatments will be among the most in-demand, while surgeons and dermatologists predict a growing interest in more innovative technologies and techniques in the aesthetic space.

Ozempic

Ozempic and the Effects of Rapid Weight Loss: A New Challenge in Aesthetics

The use of the semaglutide medication, such as Ozempic, for weight loss has led to an increased demand for aesthetic procedures. As explained by Michele Shermak, MD, a plastic surgeon, many individuals who have experienced rapid weight loss are now seeking procedures for their face, chest, and body to address its effects.

Restoring Volume and Contours with Fat Cells
A natural treatment gaining popularity involves the transfer of fat cells. These cells are harvested from areas like the bust, arms, or legs through liposuction, and then carefully transferred to areas that have lost volume.

Breast Augmentation: An Ever-Popular Procedure
In 2023, breast augmentation was particularly favored by individuals aged 30-39, making up 38% of all such procedures. This trend is linked to a desire for specific aesthetics and a growing acceptance of cosmetic enhancements.

Experts predict that with technological advancements, there will be a gradual shift from traditional silicone implants to methods using the patient’s own fat cells and breast tissue. Catherine Chang, MD, a plastic surgeon, notes that these new methods may offer more natural results and be less inflammatory.

Blepharoplasty: Rejuvenation of the Eyes
Blepharoplasty, a procedure for rejuvenating the eye area, remains one of the most sought-after procedures. It addresses puffiness, dark circles, and under-eye hollows, offering a fresher, more youthful appearance. Unlike fillers, which provide temporary solutions, this surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat for more lasting results.

Salmon Sperm for Youthful Skin
The secret to Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston’s healthy skin, salmon sperm treatment, is becoming increasingly popular. This treatment, known as Rejuran, involves the application of a formula rich in polideoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) derived from salmon sperm. Combined with microneedling, this method helps stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines, and improve skin hydration and texture, creating a “glass skin” effect.

Experts expect these treatments to continue gaining popularity, reflecting new trends in aesthetic medicine.

Nefertiti Lift

While facial treatments have always been a major focus in aesthetics, neck rejuvenation is also becoming a priority for patients. Professionally known as Botox for platysma bands, the Nefertiti Lift involves injecting Botox into muscles that extend vertically from the collarbone to the jawline. This reduces the appearance of an “aged” look and smooths both the neck and jawline.

Biostimulatory Treatments

Both skin fillers and these injections are classified as collagen biostimulators. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, these treatments promote collagen growth and other proteins that help strengthen the skin.

“Traditional skin fillers have somewhat fallen out of favor on social media in 2024,” says a dermatologist. “Patients are becoming more cautious about hyaluronic acid and are interested in enhancing their appearance naturally.”

Advanced CO2 Laser Methods

Lasers have come a long way and continue to improve, offering safer and more effective treatments that can be accessed by a wide range of clients.

“CO2 laser platforms, such as the Alma Hybrid Laser, provide solutions for a variety of skin concerns,” says Dr. Kolker. “These systems are particularly effective in improving wrinkles, sun damage, scars, and skin texture. With just a few treatments, patients can achieve long-lasting results, making these lasers a cornerstone of modern skin rejuvenation.”

Exosomes and Stem Cells

The innovation surrounding exosomes will undoubtedly be a game-changer in aesthetics for 2025. These tiny structures released by cells play an important role in cell healing. When used via injection or topically, they can aid in skin rejuvenation by increasing collagen production.

Chin Implants

Dr. Chang predicts that both men and women will increasingly seek an ideal profile in 2025, with the procedure known as mentoplasty having increased by 1% last year. Many patients specifically request sharper jawlines. Concerns over “sharp chins” are the latest issue being addressed by aesthetic treatments, and Dr. Chang believes this trend will continue, despite the cost.

During this procedure, the chin is either enhanced or broadened with an implant, helping create a wider, longer, or more sculpted profile.

“I foresee chin implants and augmentations becoming more common in 2025,” she says. “Having a ‘weak chin’ is a common concern many patients express. While it is a more expensive procedure, it requires minimal downtime, improves facial shape, and also defines the jawline.”
