The well-known striker of West Ham, Michail Antonio, has been discharged from the hospital after a life-threatening accident at the end of December. He expressed his gratitude through a social media post, sharing his appreciation for being alive.
“Every year, during this time, people ask me what I’m grateful for, and every year it’s hard to find the right words. But this year, I know exactly what I’m grateful for: the fact that I’m alive. I’ve spent so many years taking life for granted, making plans for the next day or the next year, always assuming tomorrow is guaranteed. I’ve seen friends pass away, witnessed others face near-death experiences, and even in those moments, I didn’t fully realize how precious life is.
What I’ve recently gone through has opened my eyes. Life is fragile, and every single moment matters. I am so grateful to God for giving me the strength to move forward and for allowing me to still be here.
A huge thank you to the doctors, hospitals, and everyone at West Ham: the medical team, the staff, the players, and the amazing fans. I couldn’t have made it without you. To my loved ones who have been by my side: I can’t express how important you are to me.
Finally, to the entire football community: thank you for all the love and support you’ve shown me. It truly means so much to me. I love you all and am endlessly grateful. Happy New Year, and I’ll see you soon on the pitch.”
