Dies at the age of 116, the oldest person in the world

Date:

The world’s oldest person, according to Guinness World Records, has passed away.
Tomiko Itooka from Japan died at the age of 116.

Yoshitsugu Nagata, an official responsible for elderly policies, stated that Itooka died on December 29 at a care home in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, in central Japan.

Itooka was born on May 23, 1908. She became the oldest person last year after the death of 117-year-old Maria Branyas, according to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

When she was informed that she topped the global supercentenarian rankings, she simply responded by saying, “Thank you.”

Born in Osaka, Itooka was a volleyball player in high school and was long known for her vibrant spirit, Nagata said.

She climbed Mount Ontake, which is 3,067 meters high, twice.
