The title “Honor of the Region” was awarded in 2004, with the motivation: “A distinguished figure in the field of literature, author of several works reflecting his realistic and patriotic spirit.”
Sterjo Spasse is recognized as one of the most prominent authors in Albanian literature after the 1930s, known for his significant contributions as a prose writer. His novel “Why?”, published in 1935, is considered the first philosophical novel written in the Albanian language. Spasse is among the most acclaimed writers, receiving numerous awards both during his lifetime and posthumously. He was honored with national first prizes for works such as the novels “Afërdita Returns to the Village”, “By the Lake”, “Awakening”, and the short story collection “Greetings from the Village”, among others.
