One person died, and seven others were injured on Wednesday when a Tesla vehicle, apparently carrying fireworks, caught fire and exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on platform X (formerly Twitter) that investigations confirmed the explosion was caused by a large quantity of fireworks and/or a bomb stored in the bed of a rented truck, unrelated to the vehicle itself.
“All vehicle telemetry was functioning normally at the time of the explosion,” Musk wrote.
Law enforcement officials have not ruled out terrorism as a possible motive, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly.
