Korçë: As a result of the implementation of the megaoperation “Rule of Law,” a case of smuggling goods subject to excise tax was uncovered.
Police discovered 160 packs of untaxed cigarettes in a vehicle and at a residence, suspected to have been smuggled from Greece. A 46-year-old Greek national was arrested at the scene.
The police seized the cigarette packs, a sum of cash, the vehicle, and two mobile phones.
Specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, continuing their efforts to prevent, detect, and combat criminal activities in the field of smuggling, acted on intelligence information to dismantle this criminal operation. The arrested individual, V. T., 46, residing in Greece, faces charges of “Smuggling goods subject to excise tax or evading customs duties” and “Trading and transporting smuggled goods,” as well as “Concealing income.”
At the entrance of the city of Devoll, police stopped a vehicle driven by V. T., during which they found dozens of untaxed cigarette packs. Subsequently, during a search of his residence in the village of Çiflig, more packs of cigarettes without proper invoices were discovered.
In total, 160 packs of various types of cigarettes, 1,038 euros, two mobile phones, and the 46-year-old’s vehicle were seized as material evidence.
The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecution Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça for further action.
