The National Monitoring Center has issued a new announcement revealing that several roads across Albania will now be under continuous surveillance through security cameras.
Initially, electronic monitoring will focus on some of the country’s most heavily trafficked routes, specifically:
Tirana – Durrës Highway
Durrës – Rrogozhinë
Fier – Vlorë Axis
However, these are just the beginning. According to the released data, the goal is to eventually cover a road network of approximately 3,650 kilometers. This means that in cases of traffic violations, accidents, or speeding, everything will be monitored in real time.
With the implementation of this new system, hidden police patrols are expected to be gradually phased out. These patrols have often been seen not as a helpful presence, but as a means to issue fines—particularly leaving a negative impression on foreign tourists visiting Albania.
