The “Fan S. Noli” University presents Albania in an International Socio-Cultural Project titled “Crawling Down The Aisle: Breaking the Chains of Early Marriage.”

The project, with the motto “Empowering youth against early marriages,” will run from February to June 2025 and is organized by the American University in Bulgaria, the Center for Information, Democracy & Leadership, and EdVenture Partners (USA).

According to Dr. Juliana Çyfeku, the project “Crawling Down the Aisle: Breaking the Chains of Early Marriage” aims to raise awareness about the issue of “child marriages” in Albania, particularly in rural areas, where traditional or forced practices still prevail. Despite existing laws prohibiting early marriages, they do not fully protect minors from decisions that affect their lives.

This project seeks to empower youth by providing education about their rights, the risks of early marriages, and promoting gender equality.

Through on-the-ground awareness campaigns, digital campaigns, and community engagement, the goal is to raise awareness about this fundamental issue that infringes on individual freedom in a democratic society, especially among youth aged 16-24, reducing the acceptance of “child marriages” and calling for the protection of rights to free choices.

The project is designed to have a measurable and long-lasting impact across all of Albania.
