At that time, Jesus continued to walk through Galilee. He did not want to go to Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him. The Jewish festival of Tabernacles was approaching. After His brothers went to the festival, He also went, not publicly, but as if in secret. Some of the people of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this the one they are trying to kill? And look, He is speaking publicly, and no one is saying anything to Him! Could it be that the rulers have truly realized He is the Messiah? But we know where He is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where He is from.” Then Jesus, teaching in the temple, cried out loudly, “Yes, you know Me, and you know where I am from! I have not come on My own, but there is One who is true, whom you do not know. I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
At that point, they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him because His time had not yet come.
The Word of the Lord...
MeditationJesus faces confusion about His identity and continues to reveal Himself, speaking about His origin and mission. People know where He comes from, but what they do not know is the origin and the mission He receives from God the Father. Jesus did not come by His own will, but to fulfill a plan that is the secret of His life: Jesus is the Father's messenger, who cannot deceive because He is love that saves.
Those who try to dictate the timing and course of events are not the ones with power, but Jesus Himself: "His time had not yet come." Jesus is not subject to the judgment of individuals or their anger. It will be He, and only He, who will understand when the time will come to offer Himself to humanity. Let us hasten to truly know the God we profess to believe in and whom we desire to love.
EngagementToday we commit to not being deceived by outward appearances, but to looking beyond them as we observe others.
