Happy March 8th, Mother’s Day!

Today is March 8th, International Women’s Day, which is celebrated through numerous activities. In Albania, this holiday has become a special symbol for mothers and daughters, who on this day feel privileged. They receive gifts from their children or husbands, as a sign of gratitude and respect. This day serves not only for the unification of women regardless of religion, race, culture, language, and origin, but also to remind us of the efforts for equality, peace, justice, and progress over nearly 9 decades.

Women’s Day was initially established in memory of the demonstration of working women in New York.

Officially, International Women’s Day was established in the United States on February 28, 1909, when a large demonstration was organized, demanding the right of women to vote. This was an early discussion both in the USA (with the famous writings of socialist Corinne Broën) and at the Seventh International Socialist Congress (held in Stuttgart in 1907).

Soon, other demands for women’s rights were added to the protests demanding voting rights. From November 1908 to February 1909, thousands of workers in New York went on strike for days, demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

On March 25, 1911, the cup overflowed: a fire broke out in the “Triangle” factory in New York, and 146 workers (young immigrant women) lost their lives. From this point onward, women’s demonstrations multiplied in many countries.

One thing is certain: the strength and support from protests to the celebration of March 8th today make it the center of attention for women and mothers.

Do not be afraid to take what belongs to you, to enjoy and feel as only you know how to act. Today, it awakens joy, devotion, from those who love you the most. Today, you will hear words from the heart, and you will find yourself painted in colorful papers, magical moments. This dedication is for every day of yours, fulfilled with the devotion you have given.
