Since January, Albania has assumed the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Committee of the Central European Initiative. At an event organized by the Albanian Parliament on the topic "The Role of Parliaments in Overseeing Governments and European Integration Processes," Foreign Minister Igli Hasani explained why the EU should put an end to delays and procrastination with the Western Balkans.
"Driven by the real risk of direct or hybrid influence from third-party factors in the region, we believe it is time for the member states of the European Union to pay proper attention and engage without delay and without reservations in accelerating the integration of the Western Balkans, and beyond. We express our gratitude to Hungary, which, as of July 1, assumes the next presidency of the European Union, making the delayed enlargement of the Western Balkan countries one of its presidency's priorities," said the minister.
