The Israeli military said on Sunday that it will hold daily tactical pauses in its military activities along the main road in the southern Gaza Strip to allow the entry of more humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.
International humanitarian organizations had warned of an escalating humanitarian crisis in this part of the enclave.
The military said that fighting will continue in the city of Rafah, where Israel claims to be combating the last major stronghold of Hamas – a group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.
It announced that military activities will be halted from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the day, until further notice, along the road connecting the Shalom crossing with Salah al-Din road and the north.
Despite increasing pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza, reaching an agreement to stop the fighting seems distant, eight months after the war began in the Palestinian enclave.
