Korça: Here’s Why the Women’s Cycling Team is Special

Korça, a city known for its natural beauty and rich history, also has another dimension that is gaining more and more attention – cycling, and specifically, the women’s cycling team.

This sport, which has a long tradition in the southeastern city of Albania, is an example of strength, passion, and dedication from women and girls in a field that has traditionally been seen as a male-dominated area. But why is this team so special, and what makes it stand out?

I do not deny the fact that Shkodra is known for this reason, as bicycles are more widespread there. However, I bring you a photo from Korça, where in 1944, there are several girls on bicycles. But this is not a casual ride, it is clearly a competitive race. We were able to identify one of the names, and it is Vasilika Vakfli (Treska).

Is this a competitive team? We believe so, and the sports history should mention this important fact in this field.
