On November 9, 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall began, leading to the reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990. This marked the end of a division that had lasted since May 1945, right after the conclusion of World War II. The reunification of Germany officially signified the collapse of the Communist system in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, which also led to the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact.

During this time, countries like Albania, Cuba, and North Korea continued down the path of communism. October 3rd is celebrated as the national holiday of the Federal Republic of Germany. On this significant day, 34 years ago (October 3, 1990), the so-called 2 + 4 Agreement came into effect. This agreement was between the two Germanys and the four major Allied powers (the USA, the former Soviet Union, Britain, and France), facilitating the full unification of Germany after its division post-World War II.

As is well known, the reunification process had actually begun a year earlier with the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989.
