Thimi Filipi was a renowned Albanian actor born in the city of Korça on March 1, 1926. His first roles were in amateur theater groups in the city of Korça. During World War II, he participated in partisan formations where he worked on creating partisan theaters.
After the war, he began working at the Korça hospital. He completed an acting course and started playing several roles with the city’s professional theater. In 1954, he began working as a professional actor at the “Andon Zako Çajupi” theater. His first role was in the drama “Lulja e kujtimit” (“The Flower of Remembrance”). He would go on to play many other roles that made him very popular with the audience.
In cinema, he would act in over 30 feature and television films. His first role in cinema was in the first entirely Albanian film, “Tana,” where he played the role of the Party Secretary.
Other roles followed, such as Neziri in the film “Përballimi” (“Confrontation”), Fahredini in “Njeriu me top” (“The Man with the Ball”), Xhemal Struga in “Ballë për ballë” (“Face to Face”), Nashua in “Si gjithë të tjerët” (“Like Everyone Else”), Gramozi, the Chairman of the Investigative Group in “Asgjë nuk harrohet” (“Nothing is Forgotten”), and the father of Irena in “Pranvera s’erdhi vetëm” (“Spring Did Not Come Alone”), among others.
In 1986, he was awarded the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Prize. He passed away in Korça on July 1, 1990. For his artistic merits, on August 5, 1991, Thimi Filipi was honored with the high title “Artist of the People.”
