Moldova has made a surprising decision to withdraw from this year’s Eurovision, which will be held in Basel. According to foreign media, the news comes just a few days after the country held auditions for the national finals, and it seems that these auditions played a major role in their decision.
Specifically, the director of the “Moldova 1” network, Corneliu Durnescu, stated that the lack of quality “created a negative perception” of Eurovision.
“The decision was not easy, but necessary in the current context. This year’s national selection highlighted several challenges, including the decline in public interest and the overall quality of the songs and artistic performances. This created a negative perception among experts and the public, emphasizing the need for significant reform in the selection process,” he said.
Nevertheless, the public broadcaster will air the two semi-finals and the grand final of Eurovision.
