The Special Parliamentary Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Commission, in its latest meeting, approved the basic principles on which it will proceed.
"Transparency: We aim to be open to interested groups through the products that the commission and the expert group will produce. Professionalism: This will be ensured by the fact that the best capacities, the best experts, will be part of the expert group. The entire process must comply with the best international standards," said the commission's chairman, Fatmir Xhafaj.
As in previous meetings, the opposition continued to abstain from participation. Nevertheless, Socialist Fatmir Xhafaj stated that "inclusiveness does not only mean the participation of parliamentary groups, but all stakeholders and interested parties."
In line with the goal of advancing good governance, commission member Erion Braçe proposed this for discussion: "Political bodies within parties, within important constitutional institutions such as the Assembly, the Government, down to the administrative level, it is very important for us that these bodies undergo integrity checks. Until now, it has been optional at the discretion of political parties; now we want to make the integrity check mandatory. We want to protect these bodies from being compromised at both the national and international levels."
