Skënderbeu’s men’s volleyball team achieved a stunning victory in Farkë, coming from behind to defeat Tirana 3-2 after 2 hours of play. No one expected that after Tirana’s 2-0 set lead, Skënderbeu would turn the game around and win three sets in a row, equalizing the series to 1-1. Tirana defeated Skënderbeu in Korçë, and Skënderbeu won against Tirana in the capital.
The first set of the match starts with consecutive ties at 2-2, 4-4, and despite Skënderbeu leading by a point here and there, the score is tied again at 12-12. The closest lead for Tirana comes at 18-17, after which they don't allow another tie, leading 20-18, 22-19, and finally winning 25-21, taking the set 1-0.
In the second set, Skënderbeu fails to respond, although they lead early on at 3-5 and 6-8. However, the score is tied at 10-10. After this point, it is Tirana that takes the lead at 15-12 and 17-14, managing the difference efficiently. They then lead 21-17 and close the set at 25-19, making the set score 2-0 in favor of Tirana.
The third set sees Skënderbeu take control, leading 3-5, 5-9, and the largest margin is 13-20 on the scoreboard. They maintain their lead at 17-22, and eventually win the set 20-25, narrowing the overall set difference to 1-2.
After winning the third set, Skënderbeu gained confidence, and in the fourth set, after a 4-4 tie, they led 6-7, 7-9, and even 9-12, the largest point difference up to this moment. At this point, Tirana called for a timeout. Even after this, Skënderbeu scored 3 more points, leading 9-15, and Tirana called another timeout. Skënderbeu didn't falter, showing that they couldn't be easily defeated, playing brilliantly under the guidance of coach Arben Prifti. They led 13-21 and closed the set 21-25 in their favor. Skënderbeu made a remarkable comeback, leveling the sets at 2-2 after being down 2-0, winning two sets in a row.
The fifth and final set of this marathon match, which went to five sets, started with a 1-1 tie. Then, Skënderbeu led 2-4, playing carefully, and continued leading 3-6, at which point Tirana was forced to take a timeout. Even after the timeout, Skënderbeu kept up their momentum, leading 4-9. They continued to manage their advantage effectively, leading 6-12, and closed the set 6-15, securing a great and beautiful victory in the capital.
Now, a third match will be necessary to determine the finalist, but today, Skënderbeu deserves a big "Bravo."
