Five people are expected to accumulate at least 1 trillion dollars in wealth within the next decade if current trends continue, according to Oxfam’s annual inequality report, published on Sunday. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, currently the richest person in the world with a net worth of 430 billion dollars, is expected to cross the threshold within 5 years. He will soon be joined by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault and his family. Oxfam’s report, which is based on data compiled by Forbes, coincides with the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, an elite gathering of some of the world’s wealthiest individuals and global leaders. 2024 was a highly profitable year for the world’s wealthiest individuals and families, partly driven by the rise in the U.S. stock market, Oxfam revealed. Inherited wealth This year’s Oxfam report, titled “Takers no Makers,” also highlights that more than a third of billionaires’ wealth comes from inheritance. This transfer of assets is facilitated by the fact that two-thirds of countries do not tax inheritance to direct descendants.
