The TV show The Simpsons has long been associated with eerily predicting major global events, such as the rise of Trump to power, collaborations in the music industry, the cost of living crisis in the UK, and even the 2024 U.S. election map.
In 2000, an episode from Season 11, “Bart to the Future,” eerily referenced Trump’s rise to become the 45th President of the United States. Fans have always been baffled by how the show makes these predictions, but it seems there could be more forewarnings for 2025 — and they don’t appear to be good news.
A Global Revelation
In one episode of The Simpsons titled “Thank God It’s Doomsday,” Marge decides to cut the kids’ hair, but Bart and Lisa want to go to a trendier salon downtown. Homer takes them there against Marge’s wishes, and things go horribly wrong when the salon is chaotic, leaving the kids with half-shaved heads.
Hiding from their classmates, Bart, Lisa, and Homer rush into a movie theater, where they end up watching a film about an abduction. Afterward, Homer, scared, believes that an abduction is on its way and begins claiming that “the stars are falling from the sky” and that “the end is near.”
While people initially believe Homer, the apocalypse never comes. Homer realizes that he had miscalculated the date, and the apocalypse is yet to happen. Minutes later, Homer prays to God to save his family. After some negotiations, God agrees to turn back time, and Homer wakes up from his “dream” before reuniting with his loved ones.
Though this might sound far-fetched, fans believe the themes of time travel and the apocalypse could be a warning for 2025.
World War III
With global conflicts escalating in 2024, it’s no surprise that people are taking seriously a possible prediction of World War III. Since The Simpsons began airing, there have been several references to a potential World War III. In a 1987 short film, Homer is convinced that World War III has started and insists that the family rushes to a makeshift shelter in the garden.
Meanwhile, a special scene from Lisa’s Wedding shows Lisa’s British fiancé, Hugh Parkfield, visiting Moe’s Tavern with Homer and Bart in the future.
“Since many of The Simpsons’ predictions have come true, will this prediction of World War III come to pass?” asked one person on Twitter.
Zombie Apocalypse
In a 2009 episode titled “Treehouse of Horror XX,” the world is infected by a virus that turns people into zombies. Bart seems to be the only person immune to the virus, so the family rushes to a safe zone to protect him. But in a bizarre twist, the people of Springfield believe eating Bart might make them immune to the zombie disease.
In an even crazier ending, Bart manages to “vaccinate” the population by contaminating their food before they eat it.
While many of these scenarios are clearly unrealistic, they share themes that have resurfaced during the COVID era. Social media users believe this could be foreshadowing, with one writing on TikTok: “This is what I’ve wondered all these years after watching zombie movies, wondering whose idea it was? And I knew it would become a reality one day.”
It turns out that 2024 was predicted too, with another post in 2023 stating: “The Simpsons have ‘predicted’ an apocalypse in 2024.”
