A mother who hid her daughter in a drawer for three years to keep her secret from her partner and other children has been sentenced to prison.
The young girl “had never seen daylight or breathed fresh air” until she was discovered crying in a bed just weeks before her third birthday.
According to the Daily Mail, the mother—whose name cannot be revealed to protect the identities of her children—hid the child’s existence from her siblings by keeping her in a bed drawer. She also concealed the baby from her partner, who often stayed at home.
The child, fed cereal through a syringe, was so malnourished that she resembled a seven-month-old infant.
She was also found to have matted hair, deformities, skin irritation, and other medical issues for which the mother had not sought advice or treatment.
