The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a press statement spoke about the opposition protest that will take place tomorrow, on October 7th, at 18:00. Berisha revealed details about tomorrow’s protest, emphasizing that “tomorrow begins civil disobedience, with no turning back, until a technical government is established.”
Among other things, the opposition leader stated that the opposition has made the decision to take charge of Albania’s fate. “About 24 hours separate us from the great day of October 7th. In these final hours, I want to address this message to you. Tomorrow in Albania, civil disobedience begins, with no turning back, until a technical government is established.
On the eve of this historic event, I want to provide some last clarifications for every Albanian citizen and to address my call to all Albanians. This civil disobedience does not come like a bolt from the blue. This civil disobedience has been demanded and warned about for at least three years.
This civil disobedience on October 7th marks the beginning of the last chapter of this 11-year dark history of Albania. A history that will leave behind the most destructive damages to the foundations on which Albania and Albanian identity stand. This civil disobedience, tomorrow, comes as the only response that remains for the opposition of the Albanians, the last hope for Albania.
It is our turn! In this context, I want to remind that the Albanian opposition in three years has organized not one, not two, not three, but a total of seven national protests. Massive protests, among the largest that Albania has seen in its history.
We could have started this disobedience three years ago, at the protest of July 7, 2022. In fact, it was the main demand of the opposing people to do this. But in these three years, we followed a different approach. We have given speeches. We have denounced with words. We have raised our voices. We have shouted. But were we heard? What response did we receive? In 2022, they stole our party’s flag. They forced us to go to elections without a seal, without symbols, without finances, without commissioners, without the leader’s name on the ballot,” Berisha stated.
