The White House chef, who began his tenure in 1997 and served under administrations including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, has shared intriguing insights into the culinary habits of former President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania.
Chef Andre Rush revealed that despite Trump’s well-publicized association with fast food, particularly McDonald’s, these items were not frequently ordered inside the White House. Rush explained, “You can’t just order fast food late at night at the White House. We make the burgers ourselves. Preparing something like McDonald’s to the standards expected here would take too much time.”
He also noted that Trump and Melania never ate the same meals. “You’ll never see them eating the same thing—perhaps because she is on a diet, or he might be too busy with meetings to share a meal,” Rush explained.
Looking ahead, Chef Rush expressed hope that Trump, now in his late 70s, would prioritize healthier eating habits, especially if he returned for a second term. “I would tell him, particularly now that he’s 78, to slow down a bit and focus on eating healthily,” he remarked, emphasizing how proper nutrition is crucial for maintaining mental clarity—especially during high-stakes meetings with world leaders.
As he told The Sun, Rush advises leaders to carefully consider their diets, especially during state dinners, as what one eats can influence both energy and performance during critical moments.
